Loss Control / Health & Safety Consultant 

Overview:
The Safety Consultant is responsible for coordinating and overseeing tri-statewide (VA, MD &DC) activities with respect to Health and Safety including safety training, auditing, reporting, and emergency planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Performs safety inspections of manufacturing plants, construction sites and other workplaces to determine compliance with safety and occupational health laws and regulations. Inspects work site, machine and equipment operations, environmental conditions, work practices, protective devices and equipment, and safety procedures. Identifies hazards and assesses their potential for harm to employees and provides technical assistance to managers and supervisors necessary to achieve safe and healthful working conditions.
  • Performs a variety of additional safety functions, such as providing technical assistance to employers, following up on abatement actions to be taken by business, conducting literature searches related to a specific hazard.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Develops and conducts employee safety training and assures the quality of programs.

Required education:

  • Safety certification(s) preferred
  • High School or equivalent


Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.  Bilingual applicants should document their ability to speak, read and write fluently in the Spanish Language on the resume.
  • Ability to work with and coordinate safety activities with a bilingual staff.
  • Construction Safety experience preferred.
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Valid State issued Driver's License.
  • Excellent computer skills/Microsoft Office a plus.
  • Ability to compile data and prepare reports.
  • Must demonstrate comfort speaking in front of large groups.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills appropriate for all levels of an organization.
  • Ideal candidate should be very organized, adaptable and be driven to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to multi-task efficiently, organize/prioritize and independently with an outstanding attention to detail, under ever-changing conditions.
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check.
  • Must be able to provide Motor Vehicle Record at time of job offer.
